Its odd how most serial killers like Albert Fish suffered from some form of religious psychosis or had lived under a suffocating religious environment during childhood. Is there a correlation between the two?

I'm interested in this too. Not just the serial killers, but murderers in general. One would think that if God was real, the prisons wouldn't be full of religious people, just atheists. We all know this is not true.

Does anyone have links to studies which compare religiousity and crime?

"Thyth smite thine enemies with their swords and crackth their skulls in to thine lord's earth" sure that won't influence christian pcychopathic fanatics to go on murdering sprees.

-How do you plead?...

-Not guilty

-NOT Guilty?! But you murdered them, chopped them up and ate their livers!

-god TOLD me to do it...

Invisibility and nothingness look an awful lot alike.

Please note that I refrained from specifically targeting the Christians. From my research, I find that religious psychosis among murderers and other criminals is a feature that trancends one particular religion. It's just that I have yet to find an impartial study into the whys and wherefores, which is not that suprising considering that it's a potential academic minefield of the highest order.

Hmmm....that looks suspiciously like a theist's apologetic attempt to divert attention from the problem at hand.

It cites outdated data and then says it's not applicable in Atheist forums because it's outdated. A little paradoxical isn't it?

Furthermore, it conveniently ignores the fact that varying forms of religious psychosis (i.e. dressing up in human skin and shouting "I AM GOD" at the top of their lungs) are highly prevalent among serial killers and murderers throughout history, thus avoiding further analysis into the matter. Why the blatant dichotomy?

It then launches into attacks on postings on Atheist forums. Enlightened though us Atheists may be, an article dressed up in quasi-scientific language and claiming to refute a particular hypothesis could at least find some more in-depth arguments to refute as opposed to forum posts!

But then again, that's what we get for looking at a website that's called adherents.com!

Good effort anyway Paradox!

Post Sickness through lack of knowledge

You are all sick.
The evidence is available.Look for excavations in Palestine.
Look at the British Museum.
Look at how the body of St. Barnabas was found.
There is no denying.
Try http://www.truthofpsychosis.com

After deep research you will all become well if you are not as mentioned in the New testament in Romans as "Retrobates".
Otherwise you are given up to lust and will go to your pit as dust.
There is no such thing as religious psychosis.
It is a label just like bi - polar and other afflictions, given to us by man from man.A mickey mouse method of labelling the brain as you would do pieces of cake.Western society exists to strip God or block God as God is not compatible with society's sins.
Those who deny God usually cannot come to terms with their sins and know that they would then have to give them up if they accept his existence. Therefore it is easier to keep sinning.
It takes a higher power to fathom out the brain.
Do your research.
The pharmaceutical industry is a mechanism for the mental health departments.
Oxygen, nitrogen, magnetism, air, electricity, God.....What have they in common ?
If you just attempt to pray and give it a go you will find he has always been there for you.
....and unbelief is a sin.
You will all be punished.

I've found people who call themselves names like "truth" are more full of opinions based on anecdotal evidence rather than well, the truth.

yes- might as well cal itself 'opinion' rather than 'truth' lol
and to answer its last post- I have no sin- sin is a religion made concept

now back to serial killers................

no there is no correlation between religious beliefs and serial killing- none that has been found anyway- I'll have to dig out my old notes and texts etc to give you some references- I no longer teach about this subject so don't keep up with the literature any more but may still be able to dredge some old stuff up about it that would at least give you some ideas of direction

What evidence do you wish for ?
John the baptist's grave, St.Barnabas grave ( found approx. 500 years later by a vision )
check out the British museum for King Nebudcadnezzar's marble inscription )
How about all the excavations in Palestine suit you ?
The evidence is in abundance.
Seek and ye shall, but most can't be bothered to even turn the pages of a book that has been published around the globe.
Sadly there is something amiss.

So your idea of evidence are grave sites that people claim much later have important Christian figures there? e.g. is there really any evidence that that is really Barnabas where the supposed Tomb of Barnabas is? Maybe you should rename yourself as "Gullible".

Also, speaking of excavations, isn't it interesting that the excavations of Sinai show that the events in Exodus likely never actually took place?

Yes, there is very much evidence that this is the grave of St. Barnabas. Please seek further. By replying to me I do not see this as an argument but the beginning of research for you.
This has nothing to do with gullibility.
It is concrete evidence.
My Father came from Cyprus, named Kittim in scripture. He was from Famagusta,Cyprus.Barnabas was living walking distance away.He was stoned to death and his body thrown into the sea. Please read the story completely. From his death to how he was found and why his body was HIS body when it was found approx. 500 years later.
These things all did take place, but must persist in delving into information about facts, places, people and past.
Ultimately, eventually all this information will be too vast to deny.
